MSR WindBurner 8-Inch Ceramic Nonstick Camping and Backpacking Skillet

By: Roughing It With Ruth

The MSR Reactor Camp Stove is an effective piece of camping equipment known for delivering high heat output efficiently and swiftly, even in windy conditions. However, setting it to simmer might lead to a bit of a challenge. The user in this video demonstrates a detailed method of achieving this. First, you light the stove, located at the triangle area without dots, while the pot rests on it. Once the stove reaches its glowing stage, the heat is gradually reduced to the lowest possible level without extinguishing the flame. At this point, the pot can be placed on the stove.

During the simmering process, the user suggests leaving the pot's lid off to slow down the heating process inside. To maintain a steady simmering temperature and prevent overheating, one could stir the contents occasionally and lift the pot off the stove momentarily. If the water reaches boiling point, the stove can be completely turned off. Owing to the pot's heat exchanger, it continues to hold adequate heat for the water to simmer for a few more minutes post switching it off. Despite being a robust device, the MSR Reactor Camp Stove might not be ideal for regular cooking owing to the high heat, which might lead to food items sticking to the pot's bottom and subsequent ruin. However, it performs well for tasks like cooking pasta.
