Mount Hagen Instant Coffee Taste Test

Mount Hagen Instant Coffee recently underwent a taste test to determine which one was the best. 38 different products were purchased and put through a tournament bracket to determine the winner. The coffees were judged on their bitterness, sweetness, and freshness. The coffees that were too harsh, bitter, woody, or earthy were eliminated. In the end, one coffee was determined to be the winner.
The tester had a bias against instant coffee due to its convenience and cheapness, which often results in a sacrifice of quality. He also had ethical concerns about the large companies producing these products and the neo-colonial system of coffee production. Despite this, he was curious to find out if any of the more ethical coffees tasted good.
The tester found that some of the coffees had redeeming qualities, such as a little bit of sweetness or tasting of something other than harsh, cheap coffee. The winner was determined to be the one with the most interesting flavor, a bit of chocolatey sweetness, and the least amount of harshness and bitterness.
